Geography: The temple of Angkor Wat is one of the largest architectural masterpieces of Southeast Asia. The public buildings and houses at Angkor were built of wood. The Angkor Wat temple is a collection of more than 100 temples. The walls of the temples are carved into the shapes of Mt. Meru.
History: During the reign of Suryavarman II in the first half of 12th century the initial design and construction of the Angkor Wat temple took place. The temple was built as the capital city and the main temple of the state and was dedicated to lord Vishnu between 802 and 1220 AD by Khmer Civilization. The temple was converted to Theravada Buddhist in the 14th - 15th century when Hinduism was replaced by Buddhism in Angkor. The temple got its modern name in the 16th century meaning the city of temples.

Transport:
Airways: Phnom Penh's Pochentong Airport is the international airport. Flights arrive and take off for Bangkok, Hanoi, Saigon, Vientiane and Moscow (via Bombay) from here. Private cars and buses are available from the airport to take you to Angkor.
Buses and Cars: The bus service to Phonom Penh from Saigon via Moc Bai takes about 10 hours. The departure time is at 6 am. Cars can be hired from several agents. You can take NH Route 7 to reach Cambodia via road.
Helicopter: Helicopters can be hired from Phnom Penh to Angkor. The flight is very expensive but fascinating.
Bicycle: The most efficient and easy transport are bikes. It can be hired easily.
Educational Institutions: Angkor is a destination for those researching on architectural structures.
