Geography: Atlantic City lies on the sandy island of Absecon, southeast of New Jersey. Low lying pastures and a narrow strait separate the island from the mainland. History: Atlantic City was built in 1854. The city’s famous longest boardwalk was built in 1870. It helped the hotel owners to keep away from the sandy beach. The boardwalk today is only 4.12 miles long and 60 feet wide after getting destroyed by a hurricane in 1944. New Jersey’s first wind farm was built in Atlantic City.

Economy: The economy of Atlantic City primarily depends upon its tourism and gambling industry. Tax collected from the casinos gross revenue amounts to a sum of $300 million annually. More than 46,000 students are employed in this industry.
Society & Cultural Life: The lifestyle of Atlantic City shows true colors. The casino driven culture of this city attracts thousands of tourists every year. Bubbling with a very modern way of living Atlantic City had been the home land of Miss America beauty pageant till 2005.
Educational Institutions: There are eight elementary schools in the Atlantic City. The Atlantic City School District serves till the 12th standard. Students from other cities of New Jersey come here to pursue high school education.

- Airport: Atlantic City is served by Atlantic City International Airport.
- Bus and cars: The primary bus service of Atlantic City is the New Jersey transit services. You can avail these buses to reach Atlantic City from Philadelphia, New York, Baltimore, and Washington. The shuttle buses, or Jitney, run all of Atlantic City as well as the outlying marina casino district throughout the day.
- Train: Amtrak and New Jersey Transit train services can be availed from Philadelphia.
Administration and Government: Atlantic City is governed by a municipal government under the Faulkner Act. The city is not only a part of New Jersey’s 2nd Legislative District but also the 2nd Congressional District.
