Geography: Situated on River Colorado, Austin has three magnificent man made lakes: Town Lake, Lake Austin and Late Walter E. Long. The western region of the city is hilly, the eastern being plain land. Flood caused by thunderstorms are quite a common factor in Austin. The subtropical humid climate makes Austin a hot place during summers with mild winters.
History: Austin was inhabited by Native American tribes who were originally nomads. These tribes include Tonkawa, Comanches, and Lipan Apaches. With the establishment of Waterloo village in 1837, the first permanent settlement began in Austin. The city became an educational hub after the establishment of several universities here in the late 19th century.

Economy: The University of Texas at Austin provides a large number of students who gets employed in fields like technology and defense. The dot-com industry has observed a rapid growth here since 1990. State of Texas, the University of Texas, the SETON Healthcare Network, Dell, IBM and Freescale Semiconductor are the largest companies of Austin. Apple Computer, AMD, Applied Materials, Intel, Motive Inc, Vignette, Cirrus Logic, Samsung, Silicon Laboratories, United Devices, Sun Microsystems, National Instruments, and Motion Computing are the high tech companies of Austin.
Transport System: Austin is served by the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport. Airport Flyer Bus, taxis, private cars and hotel shuttles can be rented from here. The city is well connected by roads. Taxis and buses are available from every corners of the city. Capital Metro is the main bus service of Austin, the main railway service being the Texas Steam Train Association.
Administration and Government: The city of council with its 7 members administers the city. These members are elected by a Mayor and Mayor-Council Government. The present Mayor of Austin is Will Wynn.
Society & Cultural Life: Music is life of Austin. It provides the food for soul to many. The city has many night clubs and you can catch a music show everyday at all these clubs. Austin is better known as the “Live Music Capital of the World”. The cultural life revolves around these music shows and festivals.
Educational Institutions: The best educational institutions are found in Austin. It is the home of The University of Texas. The largest system of higher education in Texas, the University of Texas System is also located in Austin. There are several other institutes in Austin providing the best courses in technology.
