Geography: Five separate shield volcanoes, one overlapping the other, form the Hawaii Island. With an area of 10,458 km sq, Big Island covers almost 62% of Hawaii Islands. Big Island is the southernmost island of Hawaii.
History: The Big Island commonly known as the island of Hawaii is 400,000 year old. During 1795 the big island was the home of Kamehameha the Great. Captain james cook was killed in this island.
Economy: Since long time sugarcane industry played the most important part in Big Island’s economy. But today the economy of Big Island centers on the tourism industry. Macadamia nuts, papaya, flowers, tropical and temperate vegetables, coffee, and orchids are produced in large quantities.

Transport System: The best ways to reach Big Island is by airways and cruise liners. The wide roads covered with tropical forest on both the sides offer great scenic view making your journey a memorable one. Bicycles and bikes can be hired as a local transport.
Society & Cultural Life: Hawaii has a very colorful cultural life. The best time to be here is during the carnival seasons. During New Year and Christmas several beach parties take place making the beach look more magnificent at night. People are polite and speak English.
Educational Institutions: The major educational institutions of Big Island are University of Hawaii at Hilo, and University of the Nations. These two universities offer courses on various subjects apart from taking the students for educational tours. Many students opt research work offered by these universities.
