Geography: Orlando is located in the center of Florida, at an altitude of 106 feet above sea level. Orlando is the city of hundred lakes. Geologically, many of the lakes developed from sink holes, which were the result of the underground limestone caves. The city enjoys a warm climate all throughout the year. The summers are humid, with temperatures rising to 92 degree F. Tourists prefer the winter for the comfortable weather conditions. Maximum rainfall received by the city is 7.1 inches, in the months of June and July.
History: Orlando Reeves, a soldier who died in the battle against the Seminole Indian tribe, is the person responsible for the etymology of the city. But before this, Orlando was named Jernigan, after the first permanent settler, Aaron Jernigan. Orlando entered into the golden age of its trade and industry with the citrus fruits production in the years 1875 to 1895. But the climatic conditions forced the groves to be shifted to a different place. The city became an important settlement for the soldiers who fought in the Spanish civil War and the World War II. 1965 is a landmark in the history of the city because it was in this year that Walt Disney introduced the Walt Disney World. Since then there has been no looking back for Orlando.
