January 1 - This day is celebrated as the New Year's Day. Schools, colleges and many intuitions remain close. People stay at home, make merry and party with friends. It is one of the most awaited and celebrated times of the year.

February-march marks the Carnival Monday and Tuesday immediately preceding the Ash Wednesday. Even though many of the businesses and schools close for the Carnival Monday and Tuesday, they are not official public holidays.

Eid-ul-Fitr, thend of Ramadan - The date for Eid and Ramadan may differ. It is the only type of public holiday in Trinidad and Tobago that recognizes Islam. It is the most important holiday on the Islamic calendar and one of the most widely and publicly celebrated Muslim holiday in the country.

The Easter Good Friday and Easter Monday are also important Holidays in Trinidad and Tobago that are celebrated with much pomp and show.

March 30 is celebrated as the Spiritual Baptist/Shouter Liberation Day. Trinidad and Tobago is the first country in the world to recognize the Spiritual Baptist faith with a national holiday.

June 19 is celebrated as the Labor Day and it Marks the labor uprising on 19th June 1937. This day is also generally recognized as the start of the modern trade union movement in Trinidad and Tobago.

August 1 is also a holiday in the country and it is observed as the Emancipation Day. It is the first country in the world to recognize emancipation from slavery.

Some of the other important Holidays in Trinidad and Tobago are August 31 as Independence Day; September 24 as Republic Day; Diwali -the Hindu festival of lights; December 25 Christmas and the December 26 Boxing Day.
