Monastir is situated at the end of a small rocky peninsula in the southern end of Gulf of Hammamet. Ribat is located near the harbor of Monastir. It was built in the year796 and is one of the he oldest Arab fortresses in North Africa. It is similar in design to Sousse. To its southeast side one finds a three storey Nador tower. From the top of the tower, one gets some good views of the yachting harbor and also the cemetery.
