A visit to Turkey is incomplete without visiting the Tourist Attractions in Cappadocia. The region of Cappadocia was also known as the land of beautiful horses' in Persian. The name is given to the inland district of Turkey or Asia Minor. The region has a rich natural, cultural and religious heritage. The Cappadocia Tourist Attractions feature all these highlights.
The Cappadocian Attractions include churches, chapels, rock formations, villages and other natural sites. The region is in the southwest of the city of Kayseri. Some of the popular Cappadocia Tourist Attractions are -
Derinkuyu, Cappadocia - This is an ancient underground settlement dating back over thousands of years. The settlement is a labyrinth of passages and cities. Here you can see churches, chapels, stables and wineries.
Goreme Open Air Museum, Cappadocia - This museum is a collection of churches and chapels. All the churches and chapels have been carved out of the volcanic mountains by Orthodox Christian monks. Some of the churches have splendid frescoes depicting Biblical scenes.
Goreme National Park, Cappadocia - This UNESCO World Heritage Site is known for its beautiful natural landscapes. The landscape has conical rock formations. Also there are a number of churches and cave dwellings carved into the volcanic rocks.
Kaymakli, Cappadocia - This is another underground settlement which housed around 15000 people at one time. The air shafts were well engineered to provide excellent air circulation.
