Al-Dur, Umm al-Quwain is actually a famous archeological site containing the remains of a town which was once important in the region. Located along the coast near Umm Al Quwain, Al-Dur was a coastal city dating back to the 200 BC to the third century AD. After extensive excavation works, many interesting artifacts have been discovered and these are on display at the Umm Al Quwain Museum. Al-Dur in Umm al-Quwain is located to the right of the Sharjah-Ras-al-Khaimah highway.

Both types of houses were made of the beach rock blocks which are found locally in the shallow lagoons. Thousands of graves have been found among the houses of Al Dur. In some cases, the larger tombs contained the remains of more than one person and even at time, of an entire family. Items found in the tombs include drinking sets, Roman glass, weaponry, pottery, jewelry and ivory.
There are two public monuments at Al-Dur, Umm al-Quwain. The small square fort features round corner towers and a small square temple. It was dedicated to the Semitic solar deity Shams. Among the items unearthed at the Al-Dur, Umm al-Quwain, there are tombs, stone houses, storage jars and glassware from Egypt and Syria. Some of the most commonly found earthen wares in Al Dur are the orange ones with black painted decorations.
Also, a huge number of coins have been discovered at Al-Dur, Umm al-Quwain. It contains foreign coins as well as hundreds of locally minted coins bearing the name of Abi'el.
