Metro de Caracas (El), Caracas holds a very significant part in the transportation in Caracas. Metro de Caracas (El), Caracas is one of the proud possession of Caracas city. It is basically owned by the government and was first planned in the early 1960s. The foundation of this is probably one of the best engineering attributes in Carcas and dates back to the year 1977. It was founded by Jose-Gonzalez- Lander, who headed the project for about 30 years since the planning years. It opened in the year 1983, since then it is efficiently serving about 1.5 million people regularly. It is one of the tourist attractions in Caracas.

The Metro system in Caracas have other services also. It has a complementary bus service known as the Metrobus, running through 20 urban routes and 4 subarban routes transporting people to a wide range of destinations in Greater Caracas and to the commuter towns.

The mission of Metro de Caracas (El), Caracas is to develop utmost excellency in terms of efficiency and productivity for the welfare of the people.

The network of the metro system consists of various routes joining the various parts of the city. The respective routes are,

  • The Line1or the Propatria-Palo Green, is the oldest subway system in the line. It passes from West to East of the city.and has 22 stations.
  • The Line 2 or The Adjuntas/Zoologico/Silence, there are 13 stations in this route
  • Line 3 or Venezuela Plaza/The Valley,there are 4 stations
  • Line 3 (Tranche2-Phase-1)/ The Valley la Rinconada, it integrates the people of the Tuy valley and also connects to the Simon Bolivar station.
  • Line 4/ Capuchinos-Rental Zone, this is an extention to line 2
  • Metro Los Teques (Phase 1), it is the most recently opened route and connects some very important locations.
The tickets for both the metro and metrobus are sold in the subways and also in different kiosks and other commercial establishments, so that people, who are not in the subway can also purchase the tickets. Tickets sold in such local places also have a discount of 3%.

Some of the important rules to be followed in the Metro are,
  • One should not smoke or light matches in the metro premises.
  • All kinds of sound devices should be kept switched off.
  • All the wastes are to be disposed in the trash bins to ensure cleanliness
  • Packages shouldn't hamper individual movement
  • Tickets to preserved carefully till exit.
  • Photo shoots should be done without flash, as it can hamper the train driver's concentration
  • Take care of the children
  • Entering Railway Tunnel is strongly forbidden
  • Unauthorized persons are not allowed to enter the premises
  • undue alarms shouldn't be given
  • the working of the Metro employees shouldn't be hampered, it is punishable
  • In case of any emergency , seek help from the operators, they have been trained to do so
