Monumento a Los Pr ceres, Caracas is a long avenue about 2 Km long. There are three consecutive avenues, named Los Ilustres, Los Simbolos, Los Proceres. This monument has a marble platform, where three figures have been assembled to represent the shield, the national anthem and the flag of Venezuela. This shield dates back to 1836 and was modified last in 1953. It was here that the flag of Venezuela had been hoisted for the first time.
The Universidad Central de Venezuela stands at the end of the avenue. This was built under the dictatorship of Perez Jimenez as a part of the renovation and the military elevation. There are two high lateral walls on which the names of the important battles are written. Between the walls lie two rows of statues representing Simon Bolivar and other eminent leaders of Venezuela.
This monument also marks many military parades and festivals of the country.
The monument is also known as the System Nationality, as it emphasizes at the process of liberation of the five Bolivian countries, Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia.
The Government decided to erect this monument in the year 1956. Renowned architects and artists were hired to build the Monumento a Los Pr ceres in Caracas. It took long years to design the avenue, to make it the solemn testimonial of all who sacrificed everything, even life for the sake of freedom of the five nations.
The largest military base of the country, Tuna Fort is also located in the close proximity to the Monumento. The avenues were all made up of the prestigious August Marble. The roadways, stairs and the light sources are also made of marble.
