Facing the Plaza Bolivar of Ciudad Bolivar, Piar House, Ciudad Bolivar is one of the major tourist attractions in the city. The place is of great historical significance, as Manuel Piar, who served as the General in Chief of the army which fought Spain at the time of the Venezuelan War of Independence and is considered as the person who liberated Guyana spent the last days of his life being imprisoned n here in Piar House, Ciudad Bolivar.
Just after, Manuel Piar started gaining prominence and consequent victories in the wars, he came in open contravention with the high ranked officials which included criollo superiors. He suffered from the wrath of even Simon Bolivar. Piar was asked to step down from the post of passing direct command to the troops. Piar took leave in the month of June 1817. His arrest was ordered by Bolivar and he was arrested on 28th September in the year 1817 and he was put to imprisonment in Piar House, Ciudad Bolivar.
Somon Bolivar also accused him of betrayal and conspiracy against the government. On October 15th , Piar's death sentence was passed. On the very next day, Piar was executed by a firing squad on the against the waslls of the cathedral by a firing squad. Piar House, Ciudad Bolivar thus owes its name to this great martyr who spent his last days here.
