South Park Zoo, Maracaibo
South Park Zoo in Maracaibo features among the most-visited zoos in the city of Maracaibo. It is situated right beside the Brewery Model Maracaibo. It covers an area of 40 ha. The South Park Zoo, Maracaibo offers the ideal base to explore the wildlife of the country. Two newborn manatees were captured by local fishermen in northwest Venezuela, in December 1999. The manatees were handed over to the South Park Zoo and placed in tanks available there. The zoo did not have proper housing facilities. So, the manatees were transferred to the Dallas World Aquarium.

Lake Maracaibo
Lake Maracaibo is one of the oldest lakes on earth. A strait 55 kilometers long links the northern edge of the lake with Gulf of Venezuela. It is a huge brackish lake fed by the salty waters of the Caribbean Sea as well as many rivers. The lake serves as a shipping route to the cities of Maracaibo as well as Cabimas. The basin around the lake houses large reserves of crude oil. It was discovered in 2004 that about a major portion of the lake is covered by duckweed.

Plaza de Toros Monumental de Maracaibo in Maracaibo is a bull ring. It was built in the year 1972. The bull ring can hold 15,000 spectators. Every year in the month of November, during the Chinita International Fair, bull fights are organized here at the bull ring. The fair is held to honor Our Lady of Chiquinquira. At the time of the fair four runs are held in the bullring. The bull ring houses a chapel and offers medical services.
