This mountain range goes from North to South, on the west side of the state and running parallel to the Sierra Nevada. It is conformed by moors and misty forests and its higher peaks are Piedras Blancas (4,762 meters) and Campanario (4,325 meters). The park runs through both the states of Mérida and Trujillo.
