He is accompanied by the Best man. The priest then proceeds with the actual wedding ceremony. He places golden crowns on the heads of the bride and the groom. Sometimes wreathes made of orange blossoms are also used to crown the bride and the groom. The crown or wreathe linked by a silk ribbon look beautiful.
Once the bride and the groom exchange vows, wedding is complete. In Greece the couple exchange rings in presence of their families and friends. After this generally a huge party is waved wishing the couple a successful married life. The party can generally last all through the night. The famous Circle dance of Egypt is performed.
Spitting is generally considered as a good gesture in Traditional Greek Wedding. It symbolized good wishes for the couple. It is an old custom and in still in practice in some parts of Greece. As par the Greek Wedding Traditions Sundays are considered to be the luckiest day for the wedding. There are special rituals on Wednesday and Friday that comes just before the wedding week. On Wednesday there is the "starting the leaven" while on Friday the "filling of the sacks" takes place. The most important person in a Greek wedding is the koumbaros or sponsor. It can be any man chosen as a mark of great honor. Many times the groom's godfather also becomes the koumbaros.
