Korean Wedding Traditions



The Korean Wedding Traditions is a collection of oriental customs and rituals. The Korean Wedding Traditions are sub divided as the South Korean traditions and the North Korean traditions. There are different types of Korean Wedding Traditions followed by different sections of the Korean population. There is a belief that the men from the south make the best grooms, while the women from the north make the best bride. The bride in Korea is termed as Sin lang and the groom is termed as Shin pu.

The traditional Korean costume is termed as Hanbok. The Hanbok is worn by the women, men and children during the traditional Korean wedding ceremony. The traditional Hanboks are white in color. The bride wears a Norigae which is a decoration for the Hanbok. The Norigae is a ribbon on a jacket. The knot on the top of the jacket is termed as Maedup. The groom's attire is termed as Chigori and Paji with an overcoat termed as Tururmagi.

A black hat is also worn by the groom is termed as moja. The wedding feast is termed as Kyorhon P'iroyon which is a mix of the oriental as well as Western traditions. The Korean Wedding Traditions also incorporate a feast with Bulgolgi which is a marinated barbeque beef strips, the Kalbi (marinated short ribs), the Kimchee (pickled cabbage with spices, radish and seafood).
