Swedish Wedding Traditions are greatly influenced by the culture of the country. There are many couples who wish to get married in traditional Swedish way. Swedish Wedding Traditions include a wide range of customs and rituals that the Swedes have carried on for centuries.
In traditional Swedish marriages the mother of the bride gives her daughter a gold coin before she leaves for the church. On the other hand the father of the bride also gives her a silver coin. The gold coin is placed on the right shoe while the silver coin is placed on the left shoe. This is an old custom that the Nigerians have practiced from centuries. It is believed that if the parents offer gold and a silver coin they can save their daughter from becoming poor.
On the wedding day the bride and the groom exchange vows. They promise to live with each other for the rest of their life. They also promise love and life-long fidelity for one another. After the wedding is completed the bride wears three bands on her finger. The first band is the engagement ring, the second one is the wedding ring and the third one is the ring for motherhood.
The Swedish marriages are generally held in the month of May. Sundays according to Swedish Wedding Traditions are supposed to be very pious. Marriage can take place either in a church or in any civil place. "The Marriage Code"(Äktenskapsbalken) is the basis of the Swedish marriages. The civil ceremony is short. It is performed by a judge at a district court. Even if it is a Church wedding, the couple should seek a proper permission from the Legal, Financial and the Administrative Services Agency.
After the wedding in complete there is a grand reception party. Traditional dance and music also play an important part. Many times the bride and the groom dance the first dance of the evening. In many wedding parties a wedding cake is cut by the bride and the groom together. Wearing bridal crown is an old custom. The crown can be made of ribbons or myrtle leaves.
