Official Airlines of Mexico

The Official Airlines of Mexico are very few. There are mainly two Official Airlines of Mexico. They are Aero Mexico and Mexicana de Aviacion. Aero Mexico is the main national airline of Mexico. It is an airline based in Mexico City, Mexico. It operates scheduled domestic services and international services to Asia, Europe, South America and USA. The main base of Aero Mexico is Mexico City International Airport with secondary hubs at Don Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla International Airport, Guadalajara, General Mariano Escobedo International Airport, Monterrey and General Ignacio Pesqueira Garcia International Airport, Hermosillo. Aero Mexico is Latin America's largest airline as regards the fleet. It is a founding member of the SkyTeam Alliance. This airline was established as Aeronaves de Mexico in the year by Antonio Diaz Lombardo. The first plane that operated from here was a Stinson SR and Julio Zinser piloted it. He was the one who inaugurated the maiden flight on the Mexico City through the Acapulco route. Eventually, Aero Mexico added some aircrafts in its crew namely the Douglas DC-3 and DC-3's successor the Douglas DC-4.

Another name in the category of the Official Airlines of Mexico is the Mexicana de Aviacion. It is also known as Mexicana Airlines. It is a major airline in Mexico. It provides domestic services and international services to countries like North America, Central America & Caribbean and South America. The funniest thing is that the main competitor of Mexicana Airlines is Aeromexico. This happened in spite of the fact that the two companies and the two airlines formerly "code-shared" on several routes and were merged for more than 10 years. Mexicana de Aviacion is the world's fourth oldest airline after the Netherland's KLM, Colombia's Avianca and Australia's Qantas.

Another information to tourists about the Official Airlines of Mexico is that the "Mexicana" brand name was given to it on July 12, 1921. This name was given by American residents in Mexico L.A. Initially, its purpose was to transport wages to the oil fields near Tampico which is on the Gulf of Mexico. Mexicana Airlines' first aircraft type was the Lincoln Standard, a two-seat biplane, starting operations with two airplanes of the type. During the 1920s air mail service was being established and other services like aerial photography were being undertaken by this airlines.
