Official Airlines of Sri Lanka

The Official Airlines of Sri Lanka is Sri Lankan Airlines. It is the flag carrier of Sri Lanka. It was established by the Sri Lankan government in July 1979 after Air Ceylon collapsed in 1978. After that this airlines continued to grow. It increased the number of destinations to connect the country with more and more countries of the world. Not only this it also made addition to its fleet. That is why it operates flights to 51 destinations at present whereas it used to fly its flight only to 26 destinations in 1990. Sri Lankan Airlines is based in the Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB). It operates is flights from this airport. Reciting the trademark phrase 'You'r Our World' this official Airlines of Sri Lanka is not a part of an airline alliance. But it was part-privatized to Emirates Airlines based in Dubai. Emirates Airlines owes a stake of 43.6% in the company.

Sri Lankan Airlines logo features the bird peacock known as Monara in Sinhala language. The very bird is an emblem of growth, fame and abundance. The colors green, red and orange used in the logo signifying wood and fire according to Feng Shui elemental analysis. The official Airlines of Sri Lanka is powerful enough to have an all-Airbus fleet consisting of 14 aircrafts. These aircrafts have their destinations in Asia,Europe and the Middle East. The official Airlines of Sri Lanka is a member of Skywards frequent flyer program of Emirates, Sri Lankan Airlines, and other Emirates travel partners. Sri Lankan Airlines acquired 6 Airbus A330-200 between October 1990 and July 2000. With this acquirement the fleet of A340-300 and A320-200 aircraft was complemented.Recently A340 is upgraded into two-class configuration. The official Airlines of Sri Lanka has been badly effected by environmental factors and terrorism. The civil war within Sri Lanka and a terrorist attack destroyed four aircrafts and damaged two . This was a huge lose . So decision was taken to recreate Colombo as a new hub for flights to Asia. As a result its regional market such as India expanded. Now it is favorite amongst Indians as the largest foreign carrier into India with 90 flights a week taking off for 1o destinations across the world.

Sri Lankan Airlines operates some small seaplane service to places such as Nuwara Eliya, Kandy, Galle and to many other locations. These planes are best for photography trips as you will get an opportunity to have a close view of the pleasing beauty of the island.
