The Official Airlines of Sri Lanka is Sri Lankan Airlines. It is the flag carrier of Sri Lanka. It was established by the Sri Lankan government in July 1979 after Air Ceylon collapsed in 1978. After that this airlines continued to grow. It increased the number of destinations to connect the country with more and more countries of the world. Not only this it also made addition to its fleet. That is why it operates flights to 51 destinations at present whereas it used to fly its flight only to 26 destinations in 1990.

Sri Lankan Airlines acquired 6 Airbus A330-200 between October 1990 and July 2000. With this acquirement the fleet of A340-300 and A320-200 aircraft was complemented.Recently A340 is upgraded into two-class configuration.

This was a huge lose . So decision was taken to recreate Colombo as a new hub for flights to Asia. As a result its regional market such as India expanded.
