Geography of Zimbabwe: Boundaries

Zimbabwe, situated in the southern part of Africa, is a landlocked country bordered by South Africa in the south, Zambia in the northwest, Botswana towards the southwest and Mozambique towards the east. The main rivers in the country are Limpopo River and Zambezi River. The Limpopo River separates the country from South Africa. The country is bordered by the Zambezi river in the northwest.

Limpopo River, Zambezi River, Save river and Runde River are some of the rivers flowing through the country. Mount Nyangani is the highest peak in the country. The country houses the Victoria Falls which is situated on the Zambezi River. The peak of the Mount Nyangani soars to a height of 2, 592 meters above sealevel. The mountain is located amidst the Nyanga National Park. The topography of Zimbabwe is marked by mountain ranges and highlands. The map of Zimbabwe shows a high plateau situated in the central region of the country between Zambezi and Limpopo.

Zimbabwe covers an area of 391,090 square kilometers of which the total land area is 386,670 square kilometers. Harare is the capital city of Zimbabwe. The land boundaries of the country extend to a length of 3,066 kilometers of which Botswana covers a length of 813 kilometers, South African border extends to a length of 225 kilometers, Mozambique border stretches to a length of 1,231 kilometers and Zambian border covers a length of 797 kilometers. The country has no coastline.

Climate of Zimbabwe

The climate of Zimbabwe shows variations due to its geographical features. Zimbabwe has a tropical type of climate. As Zimbabwe is situated towards the south of Equator, Zimbabwe experiences seasons just the opposite to what the Northern Hemisphere is experiencing. It experiences winter when New York faces summer. While it is summer in Zimbabwe when there is winter in New York. As the country is situated at a height of 915 meters above sealevel, it experiences an average annual maximum temperature of 33 degree Celsius and a minimum temperature of 7 degree Celsius. The rainy season begins from November and continues till March. Most of the rainfall occurs either in the morning or in the night. The summer rainy season stars from November and continues till March. A transitional season follows the rainy season when the rainfall decreases and the temperature falls down. It is followed by a dry cool season which lasts from mid May till the middle of August. A warm and dry season starts from the end of August and continues till the beginning of the rainy season in November.
