Hwange National Park: This Park is regarded as one of best national parks in Zimbabwe and houses different specie of animals. The Hwange National Park covers a total area of about 4,600 square kilometers. It has 105 different types of mammal species including 19 large herbivores and eight large carnivores. But the main attraction of the park is its collection of elephants which make up the largest proportion of its biomass. The park houses most of the animals that can be found in Zimbabwe and it is the only protected area where gemsbok and brown hyena occur in reasonable numbers. Different types of wild dogs are also found in this park and are believed to be of one of the largest surviving groups in Africa today.
This park is usually open on all days and gives discounts to its visitors on special occasions or in case of Safari Tours. The park is also ecologically diverse and comprises of vast, open, palm-fringed plains, grasslands, acacia woodlands and teak forests which ensure the presence of a wide variety of wild animals all the year round. Animals include elephant, Buffalo, Sable, Roan, Giraffe, Impala and sometimes even Gemsbok can be seen inside the park. Among the predators that are found here, the most important ones are Lion, Leopard, Wild Dog and Cheetah along with African Wild Cat, Serval, Honey Badger, Civet and Hyena. The safari tours are conducted in open vehicles by day and night and guided walks are also undertaken.
Matusadona National Park in Zimbabwe: This is another important national park which is famous for its collection of elephants. It lies in the southern shores of Lake Kariba and is bounded in the west by the Umi River and in the east by the dramatic Sanyati Gorge. The main animals that are found here besides elephants are antelope, kudu, impala, lions and black rhino.
