Geography of Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe is situated in the southern part of Africa. It is a landlocked country bordered by South Africa in the south, Zambia in the northwest, Botswana towards the southwest and Mozambique towards the east. The main rivers in the country are Limpopo River and Zambezi River. The Limpopo River separates the country from South Africa. Mount Nyangani is the highest peak in the country. The country house the Victoria Falls which is situated on the Zambezi River. Zimbabwe Climate shows marked variations due to its geographical features.

The climate of Zimbabwe is characterized by tropical conditions. As Zimbabwe is situated towards the south of Equator, Zimbabwe Weather undergoes a reversal of seasons. It experiences seasons just the opposite to what the Northern Hemisphere is experiencing. It experiences winter when New York faces summer. While it is summer in Zimbabwe when there is winter in New York. So, Zimbabwe celebrates Christmas in summer.

As the country is situated at a height of 915 meters above sealevel, it experiences an average annual maximum temperature of 33 degree Celsius and a minimum temperature of 7 degree Celsius. The annual temperature in summer is 24 degree Celsius. In winter the annual temperature ranges from 12 degree Celsius to 13 degree Celsius.

The rainy season begins from November and continues till March. Most of the rainfall occurs either in the morning or in the night. The best time to go to Zimbabwe is during July- September or after the rainy season during May-June. During these months Weather in Zimbabwe is comfortable. The rainfall decreases as we go from the east towards the west. The mountains located in the eastern part of the country receive annually 100 cm rainfall. While the city of Harare receives 81 cm rainfall and Bulawaya 24 cm rainfall. The south as well as the southwestern part of the country experiences little rainfall.

The summer rainy season stars from November and continues till March. A transitional season follows the rainy season when the rainfall decreases and the temperature falls down. It is followed by a dry cool season which lasts from mid May till the middle of August. A warm and dry season starts from the end of August and continues till the beginning of the rainy season in November.
